Bag yield reference
For a standard concrete mix, the QUIKRETE product data sheet lists approximate yields of 0.30 ft³ for 40 lb, 0.45 ft³ for 60 lb and 0.60 ft³ for 80 lb bags. Divide required cubic feet by the listed yield, then round up to a whole bag.
| Bag size | Approx. yield | Bags per yd³ |
|---|---|---|
| 40 lb | 0.30 ft³ | 90 |
| 60 lb | 0.45 ft³ | 60 |
| 80 lb | 0.60 ft³ | 45 |
Worked example: 1.25 cubic yards
1.25 × 27 = 33.75 ft³. At 0.60 ft³ per 80 lb bag, 33.75 ÷ 0.60 = 56.25; round up to 57 bags. This is 4,560 lb of dry mix before water, so consider handling and delivery logistics.

Yield changes with formulation and product. Fast-setting, mortar and specialty mixes can differ. Use the yield on the actual package or technical sheet if it is different from these estimates. Bag count is a material estimate, not a mix design.
Questions people ask
How many 80 lb bags make one cubic yard?
45 bags at 0.60 ft³ per bag, because one cubic yard is 27 ft³.
Why round up?
A partial bag is not a standard purchase unit. The calculator rounds up after applying the selected extra percentage.
